Education

Imperial College London

MRes Computational Methods in Ecology and Evolution

2019-2020

Consistently rated amongst the world's best universities, Imperial is committed to developing the next generation of researchers, scientists and academics through collaboration across disciplines. Imperial brings together intersecting disciplines, industries and sectors across four major areas to further our understanding of the natural world, solve major engineering problems, lead the data science revolution and improve health and well-being.

During my time at Imperial I was encouraged to pursue novel ideas and to assess the world through critical thought. I continued to advance my knowledge in analysis and programming which I use to my advantage in my day to day work.

In my spare time I established and ran the Silwood Park Beer Brewing Society, introducing the art of brewing to all that wished to learn.

Cardiff University

BSc Zoology (Hons)

2013-2016

Founded in 1883, Cardiff University is established as one of Britain's leading research universities.

During my degree I was immersed within the scientific method, a core approach that I continue to practice. Studying Zoology allowed me to pursue my interest in wildlife and the natural world, and also introduce me to a new passion for analysing and handling data.

Projects

I created this project as part of my masters. It forms the basis of a personal genetics analysis pipeline for horses. I aggregated many open source tools and to conduct this novel analysis, for which individual samples are assigned ancestry, traits, and mouth microbial biodiversity.

I utilised: big data, python, bash, R, linux, and cluster computing

When I'm not working

When I’m not behind the desk I spend most of my time outdoors. I’m often out mountain biking, road cycling, or hiking in the national parks around WA. I’ve also been brewing beer for the last few years, and I’m constantly trying to improve and try new recipes.
